Event description

Description

Shakespeare in the Squares is a not-for-profit touring theatre company that will stage a Shakespeare play in London garden squares for one night in each venue every Summer.

In 2016, our production is Much Ado About Nothing. It is directed by Joe Hufton, who has worked as a director for Secret Cinema and Belt Up Theatre, and was associate director for Les Enfants Terribles on their Olivier-nominated production of Alice’s Adventures Underground. Other work includes Scarlet at the Southwark Playhouse (nominated for two Offies) and Fable (UK and off-Broadway tour). Joe will be assisted by Tom Syms, who trained at RADA and LAMDA. Tom has worked with Les Enfants Terribles and directed Merry Wives of Windsor at the Willow Globe in Wales.

The Designer is Emily Stuart. Trained at Wimbledon School of Art, Emily has worked in film and theatre. Her work in theatre includes Anyone Can Whistle (Jermyn Street Theatre) and The Cutting of the Cloth (Southwark Playhouse) both of which won Offie Awards for Best Costume Design.

The production will be a creative, ambitious, site-responsive project that places this remarkable play at the heart of the communities to which it travels, in the great tradition of Shakespearean touring companies. The play will be set at the end of the First World War and the action transferred to the Edwardian garden squares where it is performed. The sense of community within the play will be echoed by a night of music, celebration and food, all within our specific settings.

All performances start at 7pm. We will contact you with details of bar and catering arrangements before the event.

Prices include booking fees.
