Lippan Art, also known as mud and mirror work, is a traditional mural art form that originated in India. It involves creating intricate and decorative designs using a mixture of clay, paints and mirror pieces. The designs are traditionally formed on walls, creating a relief effect and then painted with natural colours.
This art form usually features geometric patterns, floral motifs, and depictions of village scenes, animals and cultural symbols. The process involves a careful application of the clay mixture to create raised patterns and designs, often using fingers or small tools. After the clay has dried, natural dyes or paints are applied to enhance the patterns. Finally pieces of mirror are added to add detail.
During this workshop, you will be creating your own piece of Lippan art onto a pre prepared board. Your tutors, Poonam amd Aditi will guide you through every stage of the process. You will learn how to apply the clay, following designs provided. After lunch, and once the clay has dried, you will add colour with acrylic paints and finally attach pre cut pieces of mirror. Your creation will be ready for you to take home and enjoy.
