Event description

Description

Duration: 7 hours

Target Audience: Delegates will be drawn from a range of different agencies and different professional backgrounds from across the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Children’s Workforce.

This course is for those staff or volunteers who are, or could be, involved in a Section 47 Child Protection Investigation. It is not an awareness level course and, therefore, some knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures will be assumed.

Session Aims: The focus of the day will be on the roles and responsibilities of those involved in a Section 47 Investigation from the Strategy Meeting, throughout the Investigation to the Core Group as identified in the local safeguarding procedures and the national guidance; Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018.

Central to the training will be the child’s voice and their ‘lived experience’.

Session Objectives:

By the end of the training participants will have:

  • Gained knowledge and understanding about the legislation, process and procedure to enable them to contribute effectively to a s47 investigation.

  • Considered their own agency role and responsibility in this process, including data protection, information sharing, reporting and recording.

  • Gained understanding of the principles and process for effective collaboration and the importance of interagency working, including being able to forge and sustain relationships throughout the process.

  • Explored the elements of effective communication, confidence building and professional challenge, including escalation if needed.
