Professor Ahmet Davutoğlu is a Turkish academic, politician and former diplomat who served as the 26th Prime Minister of Turkey and Leader of the Justice and Development Party from 2014 to 2016 and as Foreign Minister between from 2009 to 2014 and chief advisor to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan from 2003 to 2009 who later become the President. Based on his two books 'Systemic Earthquake and the Struggle for World Order: Exclusive Populism Versus Inclusive Democracy' and 'Pivot Cities in the Rise and Fall of Civilizations' this one day course will take concepts/themes from the following chapters and expand upon on them in light of recent world events such as Gaza, the decline of the West and emerging multi-polar world and the Muslim world and leadership.

- The Role of Pivot Cities in the History of Civilizations
. Civilization-Founding Pivot Cities: pioneering cities, political centers after the formation of a civilizational paradigm.
. Pivot Cities transplanted during the formation of civilizations: Alexandrian, Ottoman and Modern Networks of Cities [London, New York and now Beijing]
. "Ghost Cities": The decline of Pivot Cities through power shifts and civilizational transformation and "Lost Cities"
. Lines of Geoeconomic/Geocultural interaction: Centers of Civilizational encounters
- A New Vision: Governance and beyond:
. Future projections and basic principles of a new order of inclusive governance: the 5 I's from survival to sustainability, regional governance: from regional cold wars to regional order, global governance: a new paradigm of global order and multi-polarity.

About the course presenter: *Professor Ahmet Davutoğlu is a Turkish academic, politician and former diplomat who served as the 26th Prime Minister of Turkey and Leader of the Justice and Development Party from 2014 to 2016 and as Foreign Minister between from 2009 to 2014 and chief advisor to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan from 2003 to 2009 who later became the President. He played active role in peace making and mediation efforts to overcome conflicts in the Middle East and the Balkans. Degree in Political Science and Economics, MA and PhD, Bogazici University. With International Islamic University of Malaysia: 1990, Assistant Professor; established and chaired Political Science Department; 1993, Associate Professor; 1999, Professor. 1995-2002, taught and had administrative duties, universities in Istanbul. Author of several books and articles on foreign policy in Turkish and English, published in several other languages. His publications include Alternative Paradigms: The Impact of Islamic and Western Weltanschauungs on Political Theory, The Civilizational Transformation and The Muslim World in English, Stratejik Derinlik (Strategic Depth), and Küresel Bunalım (The Global Crisis) in Turkish. His book Strategic Depth is a very influential book in Turkey's foreign policy orientation. He was very influential in the military, academic, and government triangle shaping Turkish foreign policy in the 2000s. In addition to his native Turkish, he also speaks German, English, Arabic and Malay. Recipient of awards and honours, including: one of the Top 100 Global Thinkers, Foreign Policy magazine (2010, 2011 and 2012); one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World, Time magazine (2012).
