Event description

Description

There are approximately 3800 live births in Walsall. The impact of maternal mental health is damaging to health and costly to the Walsall health and social care economy. The longer women remain untreated the greater the likelihood of it becoming chronic.

Our aim is to ensure that all women are asked about their wellbeing during the perinatal period. We want to see recording and detection rates increase locally as a result of this training. We also want all delegates to understand what services are available in Walsall to support women experiencing maternal mental health issues.

This session is aimed at all professionals and lay people across the statutory, voluntary, community and private sectors who may come into contact with pregnant women, women who have just had a baby and / or their families.

The sessions will enable attendees to recognise the potential signs or perinatal mental health and develop confidence to signpost women appropriately for support.

The session will also include;

  • What perinatal mental health is

  • How children and families may be affected by perinatal mental health

  • The impact substance misuse and domestic violence can have in perinatal mental

  • What you can do as a stakeholder to support women children and their families

  • The awareness raising of the Walsall Maternal and Perinatal Mental Health Pathway
