About this event
Mums Matter!
We're delighted to invite you to a special breakfast with other local mums of all ages and stages. YES, new mums, experienced mums, grandmas and great grandmas are all warmly welcome. babies and little ones are also invited; there will be toys for them.
Mums Matter breakfasts are all about pampering you Mum, so they are different to a toddler group. The different monthly activities are designed to care for you as a parent. This month we will be celebrating autumn together and making some autumn crafts together, like the examples below.
Is this a Halloween event?
In response to parent requests, we want to offer something different to the many Halloween events that will be available across Canterbury that week. This breakfast will help us to celebrate autumn together and will not be Halloween themed.
Booking is essential and free:
Please book a slot for each adult who is coming so we can get the numbers right for refreshments and to ensure there is space in the hall for everyone. Booking is free and we ask for donations towards costs on the day.
Pre-schoolers and babies are welcome:
Little ones (up to preschoolers) are always invited, there will be toys for them and where they are able, they can join in the activities with you.
Older siblings because it is half term:
We appreciate for some children it is the half term break off school and you might be wondering if you can attend with an older sibling. Please be aware this event is designed to be a treat for you as a mum, not as an activity for school age children, or even primarily for preschoolers. We won't have specific activities for children or play workers to assist them. Please only come with an older sibling if you are sure they would enjoy an event like this eg. because they will join in in the crafts or they will play with their younger sibling. If you want to bring a sibling age 4+, please book them an older child ticket as well as your own, so we can ensure there is enough space in the hall for everyone.
You don't have to come with children:
By the way, you don't have to come with your children, they might be back at school or grown up. Just come and relax with us and enjoy breakfast!
Getting to Thanington Resource Centre, Canterbury:
Thanington Road is on the bus route out of Canterbury to Ashford, up Wincheap Road. The Centre is only 5 minutes walk from Wincheap park and ride. There is plenty of parking, friendly staff and accessible toilets for us to use.
Offered on a donation basis, but booking is essential:
Thanks to grants, we are able to offer this special breakfast on a donation basis on the day. Please book a place for free at the time slot you need for each family. Your contribution on the day will help to ensure this affordable support continues for everyone in 2025 and 2026.
You Eventbrite ticket and donation includes:
- Breakfast pastries (or free from alternatives) and drinks;
- Craft materials and equipment
- A contribution towards staffing costs and volunteer expenses.
Introducing Aileen, your host from My Birth Support CIC:
"You matter mum, it's vital that you know that! If no one cares for you, how can you keep giving out to everyone else? I'm a mum too and I remember how full on it was when my children were babies and pre-schoolers. The transition into parenthood is daunting and overwhelming when it's going well, never mind if you have had a difficult or traumatic experience in the process.
I still need spaces where I can process all that is going on in my life, as I change as my children grow up. That's why I started offering monthly Maternal Journal sessions online and Mums Matter breakfasts in person in Canterbury. These are spaces that cater to you - your emotional wellbeing and mental health. I also offer specialist birth trauma recovery support and antenatal support for those who feel anxious, fearful or traumatised. You can find out more about all this on our website.
I've been supporting the emotional wellbeing of mums, parents and families for over 13 years now after overcoming Tokophobia (fear of childbirth) myself. I'd love to offer this pampering time to you because mums matter, because YOU matter!
I look forward to seeing you there!"
