Event description

Description

To mark Human Rights Day, this 10th of December 2018, London Met's Model United Nations Society is hosting a Human Rights Awareness Week from the 10th to the 15th of December, with 2 exclusive events.

Join us on Thursday 13th December for an MUN UNESCO Simulation on Ensuring the impunity, safety, and freedom of journalists.

Following the brutal murder of Jamal Kashoggi, the Saudi Arabian journalist killed in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, the issue of the safety of journalists and the impunity for the killing of journalists is once again at the forefront of preoccupations.

MUN is an academic or recreational activity in which participants assume the role of national ambassadors or representatives to debate and seek to solve global issues. Each student represents a country and only that country's views and policies throughout the simulation. Through negociations and debates, students will be working towards an agreement, materialised by a Resolution. By discussing current world issues, you will develop skills such as critical thinking, teamwork, conflict resolution, public speaking, and research.

If you would like to prepare for the simulation please find a study guide with a description of the topic to be discussed, along with rules of procedure here. Students who book their tickets will be contacted via email to select their country.
