Event description

Description

A midsummer weekend for exploring the mountains in the Cairngorm area. Price includes two nights accommodation and catering at a lovely, quirky 'hostel' with room for 7 people included.

A short walk late Friday afternoon around the Insh Marshes near Kinguissie will set us up for the weekend.

We will choose the mountains to make the most of the weather for the weekend either heading north east to Glen Feshie and the Cairngorm plateau or West towards the mountains around Laggan perhaps doing Ben Alder or some of the Monadh Liath Munros. One day will be a longer walk of around 7 hours and the other day a little shorter.

Look forward to seeing you there.

What is the total cost?

The total cost is £174 with the deposit of £74 payable via eventbrite. Balance due 4 weeks before the event.

Are there any age limits to taking part?

If you are under 18 years of age you need to have a responsible adult with you. This is not advised for children under 14 years of age.

How fit do I need to be?

You should be comfortable walking for a few hours; be able to cover around 3 miles on level ground in an hour; be fit enough to go up flights of stairs easily and take part in regular physical activity several times a week. Sometime the ground is uneven so it helps to be comfortable walking off tracks as well as on tracks.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Trains and buses stop at Newtonmore so a pick up can be arranged from there or bring your own car. Cara sharing is encouraged.

Let Fran know if you need help with transport.

What should I bring ?

Ensure you have everything for a day on the hills. Comfortable walking trousers( no jeans); Hiking boots ; Waterproof jacket and trousers; Spare layer ( fleece or similar); Hat and gloves; Water and hot drink; Walking poles recommended. Speak to Fran if you have any queries about what to bring.

Carry everything in a rucsac with a waterproof liner inside it. Dry bags for keeping gear waterproofed are recommended.

What happens if the weather is bad?

In the event of bad weather or snow an alternative walk will be offered that will be of a similar length but lower down and Fran will buy everyone a cuppa at the end!

What's included?

This trip includes 2 nights accommodation, two evening meals, two breakfasts and two lunches along with the services of a guide for the weekend.

Excluded is transport though it is hoped there can be some car sharing. Also excluded is alcohol.

Refunds and cancellations

Transfers can be made to a different walk or event if due to unforseeable circumstances you need to cancel. If minimum numbers have been met it may be possible to offer a refund instead. This event will proceed with a minimum of 3 people and refunds will be made if the minimum is not reached.
