Museum Development Network Conference 2016 #MDN2016
Wed 22 June 2016, 10:30 – 16:30 BST
The annual conference and AGM of the Museum Development Network takes place at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh on Wednesday 22 June 2016.
The Museum Development Network (MDN) is a national group of professionals in Museum Development Officer (‘MDO’) and related roles across the UK. Our work varies from place to place but typically focuses on providing support, advice and guidance to museums to improve and thrive. MDN has developed as a national forum to enable the sharing of skills, experience and resources across diverse organisational boundaries and contexts. MDN also works to provide a forum through which external partners can make contact with Museum Development professionals across the country.
Our annual conference is a key opportunity for Museum Development practitioners to network, share learning and develop collaborative approaches. Feedback from our 2015 conference in Bristol included: ‘Great networking opportunities’; ‘Great facilitation and presentations’; ‘A huge range of useful updates.’
The 2016 conference has been organised by colleagues from Museum Development North West, Museum Development North East and the South East Museum Development Programme. It is brought to you with financial support from the Association of Independent Museums and Arts Council England.
The programme offers a rich opportunity to hear case studies showcasing Museum Development practice across the UK that has enhanced museums’ capability and capacity to succeed in challenging times. With this year's conference taking place in Scotland the event is a special opportunity make new connections betwee Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish and English colleagues.
Most importantly it will also be the Annual General Meeting of MDN and an opportunity to hear of the work of the network, its future ambitions and to stand for election. This has been an exciting year for MDN, with significant progress in reviewing its effectiveness and clear plans for the way forward. This is your opportunity to be part of it.
