Description

What is Museum Futures?

The Museum Futures programme is a year-long paid traineeship for 18-24 year olds that are new to the cultural heritage sector and interested in growing their professional and digital skills.

Trainees will be paid a bursary of £15,350 (tax free) and work towards a Level 3 Diploma in Cultural Heritage.

The next cohort of trainees will start in January 2020.

Why should you attend a taster day?

The taster day is an opportunity to learn more about the Museum Futures programme and about museum careers in general. Attendees will be able to explore what it is like working at the British Museum, take part in activities, and speak with staff from a variety of departments. Attendance at the taster day is strongly encouraged for Museum Futures candidates, as it will help you understand the role and ask questions before you apply.

What is the Samsung Digitial Discovery Centre?

The SDDC is a digital learning programme that seeks to give young audiences memorable, interactive and fun experiences. The centre itself is a freshly refurbished (September 2019) space in the British Museum fitted out with digital equipment including a full suite of Samsung mobile devices. A range of up to 34 learning programmes a week take place in the centre and beyond, including workshops for schools and activities for families. The programmes vary in their content but always maintain a connection to the Museum’s fascinating collection of objects.

Who should apply?

Because Museum Futures trainees will complete Level 3 diploma and gain in-work skills training and experiences to build their CV, we encourage young people aged 18 - 24 that have not completed an undergraduate degree to apply. Candidates with over 6 months paid or unpaid experience of working in a museum and/or a postgraduate qualification are not eligible to apply.

Museum Futures is a positive action traineeship. We particularly welcome applications from candidates that are under-represented in the museum sector, including black and minority ethnic candidates, candidates from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, and/or candidates with a disability.

How to apply?

If you plan on attending the taster, day just register here and show up. We will give you all the information you need to apply and even give you tips for filling out the application. If you are unable to attend the taster day, you can find an application form at:
