Event description

Description

The Royal College of Physicians’ museum is opening late on the first Thursday of the month.

Join a free curator tour of the temporary pop-up exhibition 'Under the skin: Illustrating the human body' at 6pm.

See also around the building and museum over 140 of the RCP's portraits, silver displays and medical rarities such as a collection of self-care instruments, apothecary jars and surgical tools from the time of the English Civil War.

Out free multimedia guide and Heritage Trail will also guide you through the last five hundred years of the history of medicine examining the curious intersection of medicine, art and society.

Discover truly remarkable – but surprisingly little known – collections, featuring everything from artworks by Sir Joshua Reynolds, Sir Thomas Lawrence and Dame Elisabeth Frink, to scarce anatomical preparations and extraordinary medical instruments, all housed in a grade 1 listed ‘modernist masterpiece’ by Sir Denys Lasdun.

Don't miss our rare set of anatomical tables on the 2nd floor; an extraordinary set of 17th-century human remains, providing a fascinating insight into dissection and discovery in anatomy.

Admission is free and open to all anytime until 8pm.
