Event description

Description

Who should attend?

This one day session is designed for those who manage volunteers in a museum, gallery or heritage setting. It will be relevant to you if you recruit and manage volunteers either as part of your paid job, or in a voluntary capacity. The day will look at volunteer recruitment at all levels, including volunteer board/ committee members. This course is ideal if you haven’t attended a volunteer management course in the past. The day will provide an introduction to the ‘how to’ of planning, advertising and recruiting voluntary roles.

What will you learn?

  • Ensure your recruitment process at all levels is appropriate for your museum and gallery and reflects good practice

  • Develop attractive voluntary roles and role descriptions which meet potential volunteers’ motivations as well as the needs of your organisation

  • Put an effective recruitment and induction process in place

  • Advertise and promote your voluntary roles through a variety of channels

  • Retain volunteers by providing effective support and direction

What should you bring?

Please bring along examples of your existing role descriptions and volunteer specifications, if you have them.

How does this course support you to achieve and maintain Arts Council England’s Accreditation Standard?

The course supports the following Requirements of the Accreditation Standard:

1.3 Appropriate Management Arrangements – museums must plan for the succession of their Board effectively. This course covers trustee recruitment which can be particularly challenging.

1.7 Appropriate Workforce – Accredited museums must have volunteer agreements, role descriptions and induction processes. Learn about the pitfalls and how to avoid them by attending this course.
