Event description

Description

As part of our Museums at Night event adults will be the chance to join a guided tour around the Coalbrookdale site to discover more about the history of some of the original Coalbrookdale Company buildings before walking around the ‘Vote or No Vote’ exhibition on The Green. The outdoor installation marks the centenary of women’s right to vote and the inequality that continued for a further 10 years. The exhibition features 37 life-sized silhouettes of women representing those who gained the vote out of some 160 who were working in the Gorge. Women could only vote if they were at least 30 years old and if they, or their husband, owned a certain amount of property.

The tour also takes in a new exhibition at the Coalbrookdale Gallery, adjacent to Enginuity. Schooling Good Taste - The Coalbrookdale School of Art, 1856-1924 explores the artists and the artwork that came out of the school. Themes of style, taste and design examine the broader story of Victorian aesthetics with original design work and objects from the Coalbrookdale Company, Maw & Co. and Craven Dunnill & Co. held in the Museum’s Library and Archives.

The 40-minute talk and tour is best suited to those over 15 years old. As parts of the tour are outdoors we suggest wearing suitbale clothing.
