Description

What is Museum Futures?

The Museum Futures programme is a year-long paid traineeship for 18-24 year olds that are new to the cultural heritage sector and interested in growing their professional and digital skills.

Trainees will be paid a bursary of £13,350 (tax free) and work towards a Level 3 Diploma in Cultural Heritage.

The next cohort of trainees will start in January 2020.

Why should you attend a taster day?

The Taster Day is an opportunity to learn more about the Museum Futures programme, the role with Hastings Museum & Art Gallery, and the application process. Potential applicants will be able to explore what it is like working at Hastings Museum, take part in activities, and speak with staff from the team. Attendance at the taster day is strongly encouraged as it will help you understand the role and ask questions before you apply.

About the Hastings Museum & Art Gallery

Hastings Museum & Art Gallery was established in 1890 and has always offered local people and visitors to the town the opportunity to explore its varied collections of local history, natural sciences, fine and decorative arts, and world cultures.

Today, the museum is undergoing significant change to become a socially engaged organisation which works in partnership with local people to advocate for social justice and human rights as well as trying to making sense of contemporary issues. Our vision is to be “a local museum with a global collection that inspires people and connects communities”.

Who should apply?

Because trainees will complete Level 3 diploma and gain in-work skills training and experiences to build their CV, we encourage young people aged 18-24 that have not completed an undergraduate degree to apply. Candidates with over 6 months paid or unpaid experience of working in a museum and/or a postgraduate qualification are not eligible to apply.

We particularly welcome candidates who are currenlty underrepresented in the heritage sector, including young people from Black or Minority Ethnic backgrounds, those who consider themselves to be disabled, and those from low socio-economic areas.

How to apply?

If you plan on attending the taster, day just register here and show up. We will give you all the information you need to apply and even give you tips for filling out the application. If you are unable to attend the taster day, you can email Damian Etherington (detherington@hastings.gov.uk) to receive an application form or go to https://www.museumfutures.co.uk/hastings for more information.

Museum Futures is generously supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund
