Interested to learn more about successful collaboration between museums and the creative industries? Then join us on Thursday 15 December 2016 for an exclusive study visit to the exhibition 'Love Thy Denim' at the Hampshire Cultural Trust's Gosport Gallery, guided by curator Tara McKinney.
Extensive partnership working was involved in bringing this ambitious project to fruition. Tara and her colleagues developed new relationships with key players in the fashion and textile industries as well as building on previous partnerships with important lenders such as the V and A.
The result is an exciting and impressive fashion exhibition exploring the origins and versatility of denim, from its workwear heritage in the Wild West right through to its adoption into mainstream fashion and becoming the fabric of our everyday lives. Key pieces on display include garments by Vivienne Westwood and Maison Margiela, together with 19th century denim artefacts dug up from US silver mines. A highlight is a spectacular dress designed specially for the show, made from different shades of denim supplied by the exhibition’s partner ISKO™, global leader in denim manufacturing and textile innovation.
During this small group study visit, participants will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition and to discuss its inception, development and realisation with Tara. She will share her learning about partnership working and explain how her exhibition development process addressed the diverse needs, aspirations and timescales of the worlds of fashion, industry and museums.
This opportunity is open to Accredited museums or those Working Towards Accreditation in the South East r South West region.
Entry to the exhibition will be provided. We can also meet travel costs up to a maximum of £60.00.
The study visit commences at Gosport Gallery at 1045am and concludes at 12.15pm. You may choose to make your own way there or we can offer a lift from Fareham Station.
