Event description
Mushroom Foray, part of mewantemooseicday 2019.

About this Event

The celebrated local mycologist, Professor Roy Watling MBE, who knew John Cage as a fellow mycologist, is leading an afternoon mushrooming foray in Pollok Park [spaces are extremely limited please reserve now] on 1 November from 2-4pm. On reserving your ticket you will be sent instructions on the meeting place.

Mycology was an important part of the original Mewantemooseicday and in our event it will be celebrated in the stories Cage told about it in Indeterminacy and in these tours, which will be open to 50 students, the majority from GSA, but with some places allocated for the other partner organisations and members of the public. Cage was influenced and inspired by the secret lives of mushrooms and Roy Watling met Cage, making this event especially poignant. It is hoped that the forage will provide a deeper understanding and appreciation of the natural world. The primary focus will be on finding, identifying and gaining a better understanding of mushrooms, understanding better how they form a key part of the woodland ecosystem.
