The Art inspires the Music and the Music inspires the Art
A unique Happening will take place in Brampton in September, bringing together music and art with new paintings created during the performance.
Behind the Happening, is FuMar, a duo featuring Cumbrian saxophonist Phil Furneaux and Paris-based Krys Markowski on piano. They pair will perform at the Brampton Community Centre while Kurdish artist Amang Mardokhy creates artwork inspired by their music.
The unique event will take place on Saturday 15h September where the audience will be able to enjoy Phil and Krys’s music with support from a drummer and Azad Hassan is an Iraqi saz player. During the performance they will see Amang, who is an artisit based in Manchester, work on two canvasses.
The performance will take place in the community centre's cafe and there is an option to enjoy a meal as part of the event. If you want to enjoy a drink too bring your own wine or beer.
Phil, who lives in Brampton near Carlisle, explained: “The idea was came about at a concert in Paris when an artist asked the duo to compose a piece of music to a painting and a sculpture.
“That led to our first art-music workshop at Lancaster University and a Happening in Carlisle with local artist Carol McDermott which was so successful we organised more events in Manchester, Newcastle and Cumbria."
He added: “We’re really looking forward to bringing this idea to a Brampton audience so they can see how musicians and visual artists gain mutual creative inspiration for painting and improvising."
