Description

Music and Early Literacy: Using musical activities to support language and literacy development

About the Training

Babies and children love music. Music is a useful form of self-expression which can inspire participation, interaction and movement while also supporting the development of early literacy skills. In this session, delegates will explore the theory and evidence supporting the use of music with children in the early years. Throughout the session, there will be the opportunity to join in with practical activities, including songs, rhymes and games, all of which can be repeated at nursery or in the home.

Course Aims and Objectives

The variety of activities and information included in this course are designed to:

  • Help practitioners to further understand how music supports literacy and language development, and why children respond to music
  • Encourage the use of a range of musical activities with children to help support literacy and language development
  • Provide ideas for practical activities to develop children’s literacy and language skills, including songs, rhymes and music games
