Provocative alternative-punks The Wood Burning Savages are an incendiary four piece from Derry city that proudly wear the rebel spirit of their hometown on their sleeves.
Recent winners of the NI Music Prize, their ferocious debut album ‘Stability’ beat out the likes of Snow Patrol, Ash and Bicep to be the first self released artist to win Northern Ireland Album of the Year. The band also took home the prize of Best Northern Irish Live Act with BBC Radio 6 Music’s Tom Robinson describing vocalist Paul Connolly as “one of the next generation’s great rock frontmen.”
With blistering riffs and a sharp political edge, they are often compared to IDLES, Frank Turner and The Clash.
2019 was a great year for the band. They played at an abundance of festivals in the Summer (Glastonbury, Sea Sessions, Camden Rocks to name a few), they also supported Skinny Lister for their extensive UK tour, supported alternative rock legends Therapy? on their sell out tour across Ireland, supported Snow Patrol at their open air homecoming show and ended the year with a headline tour across UK and Ireland
“Any independent or major label worth its salt really needs to start paying close attention, as new bands rarely emerge as fully realised, ambitious and insightful as this… The Wood Burning Savages are undeniably one of the most intelligent and articulate new Irish bands to come along in quite some time.” – ‘Stability’ – 4 out of 5 Stars | The Irish Times
“They embody the spirit of rebellion perfectly.” – Rolling Stone Magazine
“In Paul Connolly, they have one of the next generation’s great rock frontmen.” – Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6Muisc
“Smart, fearsome, passionate rock music that punches you right in the heart.” – Gary Lightbody, Snow Patrol
“Ferocious intelligence, primitive abandon and excoriating tendencies! In troubled times, the world needs punk rock heroes – The Wood Burning Savages are punk rock heroes!” – Stephen McCauley, BBC Radio Ulster
“A tirade of virtuosic musicianship that needs measurement on the Richter Scale.” – Hot Press Magazine
Paper Tigers -
Fresh off their headline UK tour and following the release of the lead single 'Blue Light Trails' from their forthcoming EP, Paper Tigers are back in Derry to support The Wood Burning Savages. Prior to the pandemic Paper Tigers had earned themselves the reputation of being an incendiary live act. A whirlwind of energy, sweat and glitter on stage. These unmissable live shows along side their current 3 singles earned them support slots with Life and Hundredth on their Irish tour dates. As well as plays on Across The Line, John Bakers Totally Irish 98fm show and Dan Hegartys RTE2fm show. Being heralded as "Up there with the best indie bands around" by AnR Factory, this is not a show you want to miss.
"Imagine if Blondie filled in with The Distillers"
Switch -
Switch are an up and coming alternative band formed in Derry. The four piece owe a debt to the sounds of the Manchester scene in the late 80's and early 90's. Reinventing the modern sound, Switch have taken inspirations from bands like Oasis, The Stone Roses, U2 and Pink Floyd and paired it with punky rhythm guitar riffs and psychedelic lead lines, in order to fabricate their own sound.
