The Artschoir's first event, 'Music in Colour’, will explore artists such as Kandinsky, Delaunay, and Picasso, and their links with their contemporary composers Schoenberg, Messiaen, and Stravinsky through readings and music.
This will lead to a direct response to the artwork of Mary Barnes, whose bright and imaginative works are currently on display at the Nunnery Gallery. A new commission for the choir from our Composer in Residence, Deborah Pritchard, will respond to Barnes’ work through the poetry and stories that Mary wrote, and will be performed here for the first time.
The Artschoir was founded in 2015, and exists to explore the relationship between choral music and the wider artistic community. The choir aims to encourage vibrant and engaging collaborations, working with contemporary artists and composers to stimulate discussions in new and exciting areas.
