About St Mary's Church, Brilley.
Close to the Welsh border, on a hillside with glorious views, medieval Brilley church was restored in the second half of the 19th century. The tower was rebuilt in 1912 replacing a timber structure which was destroyed in a fire. A 14th century roof remains in the nave, with the frame of an unusual 15th century low chancel ceiling surviving over the altar, similar to a more completly preserved example at Michaelchurch-on-Arrow, just across into Wales. Amongst the Victorian furnishing are 17th century cast iron ledger slabs to Gilbert and Margaret Hare.
