Event description

Description

  • Wednesday 11th July 10 am - 4 pm
  • Venue: St Mary's Church, St Mary's Drive, Catcliffe, S60 5TP

“Without music, worship does not easily soar.” Music is a gift to the church. It adds an extra dimension to worship; it can reach depths that words alone don’t reach.

This training day will address frequently asked questions, such as:

  • - How do churches use music to enhance worship and deepen faith?
  • - How do churches address the tension between traditional and contemporary styles?
  • - How do churches promote good understanding between clergy, lay worship leaders and musicians?
  • - How do churches make good choices of resources when there is so much available?
  • - How do churches use music well when there are limited or no musical resources?

This is a day for all worship leaders, lay or ordained, to explore the use of music in worship together with their musicians. Wherever possible, we encourage worship teams to come to this day together.

The day will be led by the Revd Canon Helen Bent and her team.

Helen is Head of Ministerial Training for the Royal School of Church Music working in partnership with Praxis and Associate Vicar of the Rivers Team in Sheffield Diocese. She is a gifted educator and respected author as well as a creative liturgist, worship leader and musician. Helen is also part of the Group for Renewal of Worship and the national team for Leading Your Church into Growth.

There is no cost for this day. It has been sponsored by Hymns Ancient and Modern.

Please bring your own lunch. Refreshments will be provided,

There is plenty of parking on the road outside.
