About this event

A session for all who are interested in creativity, wellbeing, relaxation, playfulness and connection, whether you have a mucial background or not. Susanne, Joe and Martha will bring mindfulness practices and songs, and guide explorations of sounds and silence. We will explore deep listening and authentic, embodied sounding, using the voice in ways that feel comfortable and natural. We would love you to join us.

SUSANNE OLBRICH is a pianist, music educator and mindfulness teacher. She loves exploring meditation, music-making and creativity alonside each other, offering workshops and retreats with these themes. Susanne discovered mindfulness practice in 1996 in Plum Village with Thich Nhat Hanh and received the lamp transmission to become a Dharma teacher in 2016. https://susanneolbrich.net/

JOE HOLTAWAY is a singer song writer and workshop leader. His songs and playing are inspired by a folk music upbringing and involvements in peace and social justice movements. For many years he has been involved with education as a group singing facilitator. In 2020 he produced his album album 'More The Love That's Given'. https://joeholtaway.com/

MARTHA WRIGHT is an educator and musician and the Founding Director of the charity Mindful Music. She has worked as a teacher and workshop facilitator in a variety of settings. Martha is inspired by her experiences practicing and facilitating mindfulness with Wake Up London, Plum Village and The Barn Retreat Centre in Totnes. https://www.mindfulmusic.london/

Organizer Susanne Olbrich - Mindfulness & Music

Organizer of Music & Mindfulness: Nourishing Inspiration and Togetherness

Susanne Olbrich is a pianist, music educator and experienced mindfulness teacher. She enjoys bringing mindfulness and creative music-making to people with a wide variety of backgrounds, from professionals to complete novices. The focus of her work is on exploring music, creativity and mindfulness alongside one another, and on teaching mindfulness practice to musicians and creative practitioners. Susanne has developed an 8-week course "Mindfulness for Musicians", and also offers 1-to-1 coaching, group sessions, trainings, workshops and retreats.

Susanne holds a Master's in Music from Oldenburg University (Germany) and an MSc in Mindfulness from the University of Aberdeen. She recently completed a research study on "Mindfulness and Musical Creativity" which became her master's thesis. She published a book chapter on the same subject. Susanne is a Zen teacher in the tradition of Plum Village and Thich Nhat Hanh, and she completed teacher trainings in Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and the Mindfulness-based Living Course(MBLC). She also trained as a Deep Listening® facilitator with Rensselaer Polytechnic.
