Description

MUSIC OF MY MIND - An event showcasing art, poetry, music and a panel discussion by people of colour on the topics of mental health and art.

In collaboration with O2 Go Think Big, Muthers Studio and mental health charity YoungMinds–we have curated a free all-day event showcasing art, poetry, panel discussions and live music performances to explore the causes, and possible solutions, surrounding mental health problems amongst BAME young people.

Our programme features contributors from across the country, with a focus on local West Midlands and Birmingham-based artists who have expressed themes of mental health in their creative work.

The programme kicks off at 2PM with an exhibition featuring work by comic artist Tavan Maneetapho (instagram.com/payno__mind), painter Gwynneth Posadas (instagram.com/g.wny) and photographer Themba Erik of creative agency overdaux.

As part of our panel at 4PM, Themba (instagram.com/overdaux_erik) will discuss his work alongside London-based photographer Luli Ade (instagram.com/lulixade) and Birmingham playwright Demi Nandhra (deminandhra.com) with mental health professional C. Posadas (BSc Psychology) followed by a Q + A.

Following on at 5:30 PM, rapper and poet Casey Bailey (baileysrapandpoetry.com) will read from his new book 'Waiting at Bloomsbury Park', alongside Young Poet Laureate Nyanda Foday (twitter.com/youngpoetofbrum) and University of Birmingham English Literature student Meghana Reddy (twitter.com/arranagu_m).

Lastly the musical set; starting at 7PM we will be joined by Birmingham songwriter-musician AFFIEJAM (soundcloud.com/affiejam), followed by a DJ set from maverick producers Jim Myers (soundcloud.com/jimmyersandfriends) and Slim Broke (soundcloud.com/fatmoneyking) of independent creative label Dialtone Digital.
