We are offering 1-to-1 tutoring online on Zoom. We tailor this lesson to the exact requirements of your chosen school(s).

The 1 hour lesson includes time to speak to parents at the beginning and end of the lesson where the tutor will answer all of your questions and queries as well as give feedback on the session. Please arrive promptly as the sessions will not overrun if you are late to attend.

We are using a free video conferencing software called Zoom to administer online tutoring. We have used this method for several years as we are based in South London but have tutored children from different cities in the UK without them needing to travel a long distance to visit us.

If additional sessions are required, please book via this same page only.

And finally – please note that many parents contact us and ask us if we offer the exact test for download and can prepare them for the very same questions they will hear on the day of the test. The simple answer to this is no. Each school uses a different version of the MAT test and they change it each year. We offer sample training tests for online download that are very useful tools to help familiarise you with the style of tests you will hear on the day.

We have been successfully preparing students for the first round of the scholarship using these tests for many years and we keep the tests updated regularly. The tests are based on the Standard MAT test but they also include one Enhanced Test that combines the extra features used by schools such as Ashmole and Habs/Prendergast. You can download the test materials here: https://musicaptitudetest.wordpress.com/.

Please note our Scholarship Specialist teachers are unable to offer phone or email consultations or support but we will answer all your questions about the scholarship process in the 60 minute lesson. See here for how you can submit a question to us to answer in our monthly newsletter and social media posts.

Lesson Description

Watch a sample lesson with Mirna online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8HZIhML3Tc

Our 1-to-1 lessons will help Year 4, 5 and 6 musicians prepare for the upcoming Music Scholarships for state secondary admissions. The session will focus on Music Aptitude Test training that is the first round of the selective music intake process.

If you would like to focus on Round Two, have your instrument(s) ready and we will listen to your audition piece(s) and give advice on performance as well as prep the interview questions with you.

This is an individual training session lasting 60 minutes. More than one session may be required to prepare you for the test. We will advise at the first lesson how many sessions are recommended.

Terms and Conditions: We cannot refund or reschedule the online lesson once booked. Do make sure that you provide your mobile number so that we can contact you at the start of the lesson if you do not log on to Zoom. We can also offer the lesson by WhatsApp or FaceTime but please request this on the booking form. Do ensure that you test this out well in advance of your booked lesson. Your session will begin and finish at the booked times.

Frequently asked questions

Will the lesson focus on Round One or Round Two?

The first lesson usually only has time to focus on Round One if you have not done any Music Aptitude Test preparation. Should time permit we are more than happy to focus on Round Two but this is entirely optional.

Do parents need to stay in the lesson?

You are welcome to stay in the lesson but most parents prefer to meet the teacher at the start and then leave until around 5-10 minutes from the end of the lesson when they return for a lesson summary. Most benefit comes from 1-to-1 time with the student.

Do you offer refunds if we cannot attend?

Unfortunately this lesson cannot be rescheduled for any reason other than teacher absence.
