Are you preparing for an outdoor leadership course? Do you want to figure out what the weather is doing when out on the hills? How can you use weather science to plan the best mountain adventure?
Join us in the Lakes this autumn for an action-packed weekend of weather and outdoor knowledge.
Over two full days, we'll mix classroom weather theory with time out on the mountains taking observations and understanding more about the mountain environment and the landscape. Based at the HQ of Langdale-Ambleside Mountain Rescue, we'll gain first-hand insights into the toughest of conditions experienced on the fells on rescue missions.
Our teaching team combines both professional meteorology and mountaineering, bringing together both sides of life on the mountains - the science behind the forecasts, and how to deal with it when you're out there in the middle of it...
Come rain or shine, or considerable buffeting, this weekend is a great opportunity for discovery and adventure!
Course runs from 9am til 5pm each day.
Accommodation and food are not provided as part of this course.
Drinks will be available from the Mountain Rescue base.
We suggest bringing along packed lunches or snacks for taking out on the hills.
Outdoor time is expected to be 3-5 hours per day, depending on conditions. Height gain of maximum 300-400m over neighbouring fells, distances of around 5 miles.
Neighbouring Wanslea Guest House are kindly offering discounted rates on weekend B&B accommodation. A limited number of rooms are available on a first-come-first-served basis, with free parking adjacent to our venue also included for guests. Ideal for couples or pairs.
