Description
This December, Newstead Wood School's Music and Drama departments are collaborating to bring 'My Fair Lady' to the Newstead Wood stage!
Based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion, the story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, so she may pass as a lady. Higgins and Eliza clash, then form an unlikely bond – one that is threatened by an aristocratic suitor.
It set a record for the longest run of any show on Broadway up to that time and was followed by a popular film version. Includes musical numbers such as Wouldn’t It Be Loverly, I Could Have Danced All Night, On The Street Where You Live and I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face .
My Fair Lady has frequently been called “the perfect musical”.
This is an amateur production.
Books and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner. Music by Frederick Loewe. Adapted from George Bernard Shaw’s play and Gabriel Pascal’s motion picture Pygmalion. Original production directed and staged by Moss Hart.
This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe).
