Description

Hope for Justice, in partnership with The Rah Rah Theatre Company and West Yorkshire local authorities, are hosting 8 unique modern slavery training & awareness events. This event will showcase the award nominated modern slavery play, My Mind is Free. An informative workshop will follow, delivered by the Hope for Justice training team.

This event is for all professionals and volunteers working in the West Yorkshire area and will be particularly useful for those who work with vulnerable adults and children. It's designed to engage, train and equip you with the knowledge and awareness of the issue of Modern Slavery and Human trafficking and how you can make a difference. This event will help you to identity more victims of trafficking and help bring an end to modern slavery. After the event you will be able to:


  • Explain what modern slavery is and identify the different types that exist
  • Recognise the signs / indicators of Modern Slavery
  • Identify referral pathways and what pathway to follow if you identify a victim / case of Modern Slavery
  • Know how to work with and support potential victims of Modern Slavery


The event comprises:

1pm - Welcome and an opportunity to network with other professionals and volunteers.

1:30pm - Theatre production by Rah Rah Community Theatre Company called “My Mind is free”. The production uses a mixture of imaginative physical theatre and skilful multi–role playing to tell the interlinked stories of four people trafficked to and within the UK and their horrifying tales of abuse, exploitation and enslavement. Nominated for best stage play by the Anti-Trafficking Foundation in 2016 and Amnesty Edinburgh Festival: Freedom of Expression Award 2017.

2:35pm - Break and refreshments.

2:45pm - Hope for Justice will run a 90 minute workshop assisted by the actors from the play. The workshop will cover local information and case studies and give those attending the chance to engage with the characters from the play highlighting the difficulties and barriers when dealing with modern slavery victims.

4:15pm - Q&A Both Hope For Justice and Rah Rah Community Theatre Company will be available to answer any questions.

4:30pm - Finish.
