My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong by David Walsh
Tuesday, 5 March 2013 from 18:00 to 19:00 (GMT)
Portsmouth, United Kingdom
A public lecture by David Walsh, chief sports writer for the Sunday Times
For 13 years Lance Armstrong, the record-breaking seven times winner of the Tour de France vigorously denied using performance enhancing drugs. Many journalists refused to touch the story, but Sunday Times chief sports writer David Walsh doggedly kept investigating to reveal the truth. His tireless pursuit was vindicated when the US Anti-Doping Agency investigation revealed last October the record Tour winner had systematically doped. Stripped of his titles and banned from the sport for life, Armstrong finally confessed on Oprah Winfrey last month to taking the performance enhancing drugs. Walsh, named Journalist of the Year at the British Journalism Awards, will discuss his relentless pursuit for the truth and the importance for journalists to continue asking questions and not run away from the story.
