Event description
Come along to this special MyEyeSite event and have your say in improving eyecare: meet HealthTech companies and preview the MyEyeSite app

About this Event

You are warmly invited to this "MyEyesite" Health Data Research UK (HDRUK)-funded event, which focuses on HealthTech for eyecare. The event is free for NHS patients (and their relatives/ friends) and attendees from the public sector (e.g. NHS staff and University staff/ students) or those from the private sector with an interest in patient-focussed HealthTech (e.g. pharma). A complimentary sandwich lunch and refreshments at the break will be provided. We are able to reimburse reasonable travel costs within the UK for NHS patients (please contact us ahead of the event about this).

Background to the MyEyeSite project:

HDRUK is the UK national institute for health and biomedical informatics research and interdisciplinary research, which aims to transform the UK medical informatics research landscape and to capitalise on the UK’s renowned data resources and research strengths. MyEyeSite was one of the ten pilot projects awarded funding from the HDRUK Sprint Exemplar Innovation Programme, part of UK Research and Innovation’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund in February 2019 and was the only project with a focus on eye health.

MyEyeSite is an Research and Development (R&D) project to carry out a feasibility study and develop a prototype for a patient-owned repository of rare-disease clinical and genetic data using inherited retinal disease (IRD). In other words, we are creating an "eye patient friendly" app and database to allow patients to store and take ownership of their eye data, and we are creating the first version with a focus on patients with IRD. The project is a collaboration between Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Loft Digital, and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, led by Professor Andrew Webster, a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital. Please visit the website to find out more and to fill out our short survey to help us understand your needs around HealthTech for Eyecare: https://myeyesite.org.uk/

About the Event:

The morning session is an opportunity for people affected by eye (especially retinal) problems, including their families/friends, and also, NHS staff/clinicians and researchers, to hear presentations from teams involved in developing HealthTech at Moorfields Eye Hospital/ UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and from companies developing eyecare apps (PatientsKnowBest, DrDoctor and BigPicture Health), as well as an opportunity to ask questions.

In a smaller afternoon workshop, people affected by eye problems (especially retinal disease) will have an opportunity to participate in a more "in depth" focus group discussion around these topics, with a focus on technology engagement and app development, including a preview of how the MyEyeSite app might look on your Smartphone or computer.
