Bywyd Richard Burton

Becoming Richard Burton

Mynediad: Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Caerdydd | Entry: National Museum Cardiff image

Dyma hanes sut y daeth Richard Jenkins, y bachgen o Bont-rhyd-y-fen, Port Talbot, i fod yn Richard Burton y seren ryngwladol.

Bydd yr arddangosfa’n cynnwys dyddiaduron, dogfennau a gwrthrychau o Archifau Richard Burton ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe, yn cael eu harddangos am y tro cyntaf.

Ymysg uchafbwyntiau eraill yr arddangosfa mae rhai o wisgoedd llwyfan Richard Burton o’r perfformiadau Shakespeare fu’n sbardun i’w yrfa, a gwisgoedd o Cleopatra, y ffilm Hollywood epig a newidiodd ei fywyd.

Yn anterth ei enwogrwydd, roedd Richard Burton dan y chwyddwydr drwy’r amser, a’r wasg yn llawn straeon camarweiniol amdano. Trwy gyfrwng ei ddyddiaduron a’i bapurau personol, bydd yr arddangosfa hon yn datgelu’r dyn tu ôl i’r penawdau – Richard Burton y gŵr a’r tad, y darllenydd a’r meddyliwr, a’r Cymro balch.

This brand new exhibition follows the remarkable story of how Richard Jenkins, the boy from Pontrhydyfen and Taibach, Port Talbot, became Richard Burton, the international star of stage and screen.

The exhibition will feature Burton’s diaries, papers and personal objects – displayed for the first time – from the Richard Burton Archives held at Swansea University.

Highlight objects loaned for the exhibition include costumes worn by Burton on stage in the Shakespearean performances that launched his career and later as a Hollywood star in Cleopatra, the film that changed his life.

At the height of his fame Burton was constantly in the spotlight and often misunderstood in the press. Through his personal diaries and papers this exhibition will reveal the man behind the headlines – Richard Burton the husband, father, reader, writer and passionate Welshman.
