Feminism is often seen as secular, overlooking the rich spiritual lives many women lead. Yet, throughout history, many women have found strength and empowerment through spiritual practices. In the 1970s, second-wave feminism sparked a movement that brought goddess stories and ancient female power back into the spotlight.

On key voice, Carol Christ, wrote Why Women Need the Goddess – a powerful reminder that reconnecting with goddess imagery can help women reclaim their independence and confidence. This talk will explore how spiritual feminism supports women’s growth and self-expression through mystical and goddess-centered ideas.

Speaker Bio

Dr Sharon Jagger is Associate Professor of Religion at York St. John University and researches the experiences and beliefs of women practicing a goddess spirituality. In this online workshop she will outline the feminist possibilities of the goddess and will share some of the stories of women taking mystical feminist journeys. The workshop will signpost to feminist philosophy that underpins the goddess archetype and explore beliefs and practices that might be called 'mystical feminism'.
