Myth Busters: Healthy Eating and Weight Management
Thu 12 January 2017, 18:30 – 20:30 GMT
Do you know what ‘Healthy Eating’ looks like?
The media is full of healthy eating, diet, weight loss and super food stories, and many are just that… stories… based on anecdotes and advice from nutritionally unqualified people, with a high social media presence, rather than robust scientific study based evidence. This has created so much nutrition noise; it’s difficult to know what is best for your health.
This workshop is aimed at adults who want the scientific evidence translated to practical everyday food related advice, and who may want weight maintenance advice after the festive season.
Topics to be Covered
- Healthy Eating
- Weight Maintenance
- Behaviour Change
- Next steps… Action planning
The workshop will not take the place of an individual consultation but participants are welcome to book an individual consultation at another time.
The number of attendees is limited to ensure a highly interactive small group environment where participants will be free to ask questions. All participants will be asked to agree to respect the confidentiality of others attending the workshop.
The event will be introduced by Lady (Jane) Nathan, Founder and Clinic Director at the Healthcare On Demand Clinic. The interactive workshop will be led by Elaine Allerton, a Registered Dietitian at the Healthcare On Demand Clinic in Guildford who specialises in diabetes, weight management, dietary advice pre and post bariatric surgery and gastrointestinal issues (IBS – low FODMAP diet, diverticular disease, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, constipation, malabsorption, coeliac disease).
Elaine is a media spokesperson for the British Dietetic Association, and has appeared on Channel 4’s Food Unwrapped TV programme, as well as being regularly featured in the printed press giving comment on nutritional issues.
