Carmarthenshire has two indoor markets at Carmarthen and Llanelli. Outdoor markets are run in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Ammanford, Llandeilo and Llandovery. The regional meeting will be held in Llanelli. Historically this market started as farmers produce market and gained its charter for the original market hall in 1864.
In recent years there has been a decline in Llanelli Town Centre with competition from two out of town retail parks. Llanelli Market is filled with proud community spirit and currently enjoys a full occupation. In 2016 it became the first market in Wales to be recognised as Dementia Friendly. 2016 the market benefitted from a mechanical and electrical upgrade of just under £1m.
