Conference Description:

Join us at this year's Ealing NAHT annual conference.

Following the huge success of last year's event and, based on requests from members, this year we will be focusing on best practice in engaging and fostering relationships with parents and families.

Speakers will share their insights and strategies to help navigate the increasingly challenging situations we meet in schools.

Speakers:

  • Brenda McHugh (MBE) is a Consultant Family Systemic Psychotherapist at the Anna Freud Centre, as well as a national and international guest lecturer and teacher. Having taught initially in mainstream and special schools, Brenda then worked for over thirty years in National Health Service child and adolescent mental health services. There, Brenda devised and ran the first multi-family therapeutic classroom designed to help children and young people presenting with complex emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties and their families. Brenda is the Co-Founder of the Pears Family School London, an Alternative Provision school for children aged 5-14.


  • Heads Up Director, Sonia Gill, is a qualified teacher who has taught children from Reception to age 16.

Sonia was selected to join the prestigious John Lewis leadership programme where she led a number of multi-million-pound business areas for several years. However Sonia’s passion lies in education which led her to found Heads Up.

Sonia is an international speaker at educational events and the author of two number 1 ranked Amazon books – ‘Journey to Outstanding (2nd edition)’ and ‘Successful Difficult Conversations in School’.


  • Ealing’s own, Libby Giarraputo will offer local knowledge and practical insights into successful practice happening across Ealing.


  • NAHT speakers:

Paul Whiteman, General Secretary, NAHT (The School Leaders' Union) will provide an update on National issues affecting our members and outline the work that NAHT is doign to influence positive change.

Angi Gibson, NAHT President elect, will leave her role as Headtacher of a school in the North East of England to take up a year's secondment as NAHT President in September 2025. Angi will share her insights as an experienced school leader into how to deal positively with parents. She may even talk about how she convinced the community that theur children would cycle to school events rather than use coaches.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need my membership number to book?

Yes. If you are booking a member place you will be required to enter the correct membership number. You can find your membership number by phoning membership on 0300 30 30 333 option 3.

Does the name on the booking need to match the delegate?

The names of each individual delegate must be entered during the booking process along with a unique email address for each delegate as this will be used for the confirmation, joining instructions and for sending materials after the course.

What if I am retired or don't have a workplace?

If you are retired or do not currently have a workplace, please enter your home address in the workplace field. On the drop down questions relating to phase please select other and enter either N/A or retired.

How do I contact the organiser if I have any questions?

Is my booking transferrable?

Bookings may only be transferred at the discretion of the Organising Team. Requests will need to be made in writing to organising@naht.org.uk before the event. Transfers and cancellations may be subject to a charge.
