Narrative analysis: research tool or outcome?

About this event
London Met PGR Training 2021-22
As humans we are drawn towards narratives and have a predisposition to “organise experience into a narrative form, into plot structures” (Bruner, 1990, p.4).
Researchers have also discovered the potential of this genre and are increasingly basing their work on narratives.
However, what exactly is narrative research?
- Is there an epistemological underpinning behind this approach?
- What is the difference between narrative analysis and analysis of narratives?
- And what are methods of crafting and analysing narratives?
In this hands-on workshop, Sybille Ratz will address some of these issues as we discuss examples from the literature. Sybille will also reflect on how she conducted narrative research in her PhD thesis, and you are invited to share and discuss ideas from your own research.
Session lead: Sibille Ratz, Edinburgh Napier University
