About this event

Welcome to our Narrative-based Life Story Work Training

Join us at the British Psychological Society offices in London for an immersive event where you'll learn more about Narrative-based Life Story Work. This in-person training will dive deep into the power of narratives and how they shape children’s experiences and the stories they tell about themselves. Discover how to work with young people to help them to better understand their experiences and start to notice and tell more positive stories about themselves. We will cover an introduction to Narrative psychology theory and the principles underlying the approach, as well as giving you time to practice the Narrative-based methodologies with one another. There will be opportunities to ask questions and share experiences.

Narrative-based methodologies are invaluable for Life Story work with looked after and adopted children but can also be applied to many other aspects of your work with children and young people. The approach is person-centred and respectful, giving you insight into how a young person sees their world and the dominant stories that they hold, as well as helping them start to change some of those dominant narratives.

Whether you're an experienced practitioner or just starting your career, this training will provide you with valuable understanding and practical skills to enhance your practice. Don't miss this opportunity to expand your knowledge and connect with like-minded individuals in a supportive learning environment.

The course includes a free copy of the book by Dr Gillian Shotton, ‘A session by session guide to life story work’ which outlines the methodologies in detail as well as giving access to photocopiable resources. Lunch will be provided along with refreshments available throughout the day.
