Event description

Description

Live sports broadcasting is the longest unscripted drama on our TV screens. Whilst the players, managers and fans all play their part in delivering that drama - with no script, opposing plans and millions of pounds riding on every move the story of sport on TV can change in a second.

Launched in 2013 BT Sport has been bringing Premiership Football, Rugby and WTA Tennis to British TV screens since its inception. In 2015 BT Sport acquired the rights to broadcast the UEFA Champions League in the UK. Since then it has brought a number of innovations into how we watch 'the game' from our armchairs. The BT Sport App, UHDTV and Dolby Atmos all deliver a first rate visual and sonic experience. These though are only tools in telling the drama on the pitch. Alongside these innovations BT Sport has brought new voices to commentary and given live match directors more angles, more innovations and more freedom to tell the story. One of those directors is Sean Hughes. before joining BT Sport Sean spent over 15 years at the BBC. Sean has been match director at a number of live Champions league games and has a unique insight into how stories are set up pre-match and pan out in the game.

Join us for an evening with our neighbours BT Sport as we examine narrative in TV sport through a number of BT Sport transmitted live Champions League matches. Bayern Munich vrs Arsenal, Barcelona vrs Manchester City and much more. If you are a football fan, studying the business of Sport or simply interested in how we tell sporting stories in a post truth world this evening event is for you.
