The concept and practice of adoption support has developed alongside our growing understanding of the experiences of those involved: the child, the adoptive parents and the birth parent.

The major evolution in adoption support in the last fifteen years has been the acknowledgement that adoption support is an expected part of being an adoptive family. Asking for support is no longer a reflection that ’this family can’t cope’ but rather that ‘this family is undertaking a very complex parenting task and is likely to require support’ (Ottaway et al. 2014; Rushton and Dance, 2002; Pennington, 2012).

This guide forms part of the “core offer” of the National Framework for Adoption Support with key principles of early identification of a child’s needs and a dynamic approach to assessment and provision of support. These are encompassed with the introduction of 2 new All Wales documents: Assessment of Adoption Support needs and Adoption Support Plan which “moves” with the child on their journey to adoption and beyond, especially at times of transition or change.

This event will examine the key messages from the Adoption Support Good Practice Guide and, using a detailed case study, look at the implications for practice from both a multi disciplinary and single discipline perspective. We will be sharing examples of what works well and any specific challenges that need to be addressed.

Mae cysyniad ac arferion cymorth mabwysiadu wedi datblygu gyda’n dealltwriaeth gynyddol o brofiadau’r sawl sy’n rhan o’r broses: y plentyn, y rhiant sy’n mabwysiadu a’r rhiant biolegol. Y prif esblygiad mewn cymorth mabwysiadu yn y pymtheng mlynedd ddiwethaf fu’r gydnabyddiaeth bod cymorth mabwysiadu yn rhywbeth a ddisgwylir wrth fod yn deulu sy’n mabwysiadu. Nid yw gofyn am gymorth bellach yn adlewyrchiad ‘nad yw’r teulu hwn yn gallu ymdopi’ ond yn hytrach ‘mae’r teulu hwn yn ymgymryd â thasg rhianta gymhleth iawn ac mae’n debygol o fod angen cymorth’ (Ottaway et al. 2014; Rushton a Dance, 2002; Pennington, 2012).

Mae’r canllaw yn ffurfio rhan o’r ‘cynnig craidd’ yn y Fframwaith Cenedlaethol ar gyfer Cymorth Mabwysiadu gyda egwyddorion allweddol o nodi anghenion plentyn yn gynnar a dull deinamig o asesu a darparu cymorth. Mae'r rhain wedi'u cynnwys yn y gwaith o gyflwyno 2 ddogfen newydd i Gymru gyfan: Asesu Anghenion Cymorth Mabwysiadu a Chynllun Cymorth Mabwysiadu sy'n "symud" gyda'r plentyn ar ei daith i fabwysiadu a thu hwnt, yn enwedig ar adegau o drawsnewid neu newid.

Bydd y digwyddiad hwn yn archwilio negeseuon allweddol y Canllaw Arferion Da Cymorth Mabwysiadu, gan ddefnyddio astudiaeth achos manwl, yn edrych ar y goblygiadau ar gyfer ymarfer o safbwynt amlddisgyblaethol ac un ddisgyblaeth. Byddwn yn rhannu enghreifftiau o'r hyn sy'n gweithio'n dda ac unrhyw heriau penodol y mae angen mynd i'r afael â hwy.
