Learners should have achieved the National 4 Modern Studies qualification or equivalent qualifications and/or experinces prior to starting this course.

The course uses a multidisciplinary approach to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of contemporary political and social issues in local, Scottish, United Kingdom and international contexts. Learners develop the skills to interpret and participate in the social and political processes they will encounter in their lives.

Learners develop:

a range of research and information-handling skills including evaluating information/ evidence in order to support and oppose a view; making decisions and drawing conclusions; constructing detailed arguments; communicating views, opinions, decisions and conclusions based on evidence
detailed understanding of the democratic process
detailed understanding of social and economic issues at local, Scottish, national and international levels
ways of addressing needs and inequalities
an understanding of different views about the extent of state involvement in society
an understanding of the nature and processes of conflict resolution
an understanding of human and legal rights and responsibilities and their application in different societies

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

ID is required if you have booked a discounted rate ticket. We will need proof of age or proof of benefits.

What's the refund policy?

Refunds are available up to 1 week before the start of the programme.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

It is useful to have EITHER an e ticket or a print out to confirm a place, but we will have a full list of the people who have booked and paid, so any form of ID will ususally suffice.

Can I update my registration information?

Yes, you are free to change your information, however if your booking ends up changing price, please contact us for help.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Yes, but please contact us if the person you want to transfer your booking to is not in the same price bracket as you are.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

Please contact us before the class to arrange a ticket transfer.
