Medsin Glasgow is proud to be hosting the National Conference 2016!
Humanitarian crises have never been more visible, both here in the UK and abroad. We see mass migration as a consequence of violence and conflicts, which has forced people to seek asylum in Europe and elsewhere. In the UK, the effects of austerity are being felt in all areas of the country, with the gap between rich and poor widening and with it, health inequalities.
The city of Glasgow has a rich history of helping those in need. The response of the Scottish people to both the refugee crisis and the poverty crisis here in the UK is something that inspires us here in Glasgow to continue to work to reduce health inequalities.
The Medsin National Conference will be focussing on how we can improve the health of those people who are affected by the refugee and poverty crises. We have inspiring speakers from around the UK who will share with you their experiences and research, from working in conflict zones to new ways of working with vulnerable groups here in Glasgow to bring about improvements in health. We believe that by coming together to create change we can make a difference to the communities around us, wherever we may be from.
The conference will be held in the Teaching and Learning Centre at the new Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow on Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th of November. We will be kicking off the conference with a welcome drinks reception in the historic Glasgow City Chambers on Friday the 11th of November. All food and accommodation is included throughout the weekend and we plan to dance the Saturday night away in true Scottish style with Stravaig, a live ceilidh band, and a DJ set at SWG3 until the wee hours of the morning!
Tickets are limited in number so please make sure you get to be a part of this exciting event.
