Join us for a hands-on conservation experience as we take part in The Mammal Society’s National Harvest Mouse Survey. We’ll be heading to Lakeside Campus to search for harvest mouse nests in grassy habitats, contributing valuable data to a national monitoring programme.

This is a great opportunity to learn field survey techniques, develop your ecological skills, and support real-world conservation science.

Free minibus transport is available from St John’s Campus to Lakeside Campus.
Please book a Minibus ticket if you’d like a seat—spaces are limited and must be reserved in advance.


🔍 What to Expect

  • Introduction to harvest mouse ecology and nest identification
  • Surveying suitable habitats at Lakeside Campus
  • Data collection and submission to The Mammal Society
  • Fieldwork experience in a supportive group setting

🧰 What to Bring

  • Warm, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear
  • Gloves (optional, for handling vegetation)
  • Smartphone or notebook for recording sightings

Good to Know

  • No prior experience needed—training will be provided on the day.
  • The event will go ahead in light rain but may be rescheduled in severe weather.
  • The site includes uneven ground and long grass—please contact the organiser if you have accessibility needs.
