Venue: Bradford College, the Advanced Technology Centre, Randall Well Street, Bradford, BD7 1AL

Bradford in West Yorkshire has an amazingly diverse population from all over the world; this population stems from the industrial revolution and the textile industry through to present day manufacturing and service industries. We have over 100 different nationalities at Bradford College including asylum seekers and refugees from modern conflicts. This diversity is on the one hand creative and empowering and on the other chaotic and challenging given the current national context.

Bradford College is at the forefront of tackling inequality and discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity and promoting good relations for all. To support our work, we engage with organisations such as Stonewall, Karma Nirvana, the Alzheimer`s Society, West Yorkshire Police, Naz and Matt Foundation, The University of Bradford, City Of Bradford Metropolitan District Council, Staying Put, Remembering Srebrenica, Equity Partnership and many more.

We have a vibrant and successful UNITED strategy to target radicalisation through positive community and educational action. Led by Assia Hussain, our work is recognised nationally and internationally. We promote the White Ribbon Campaign (men against domestic violence), LGBT, FGM, Disability and address sub-culture hate crimes.

Through the use of speakers, discussions and workshops, the conference aims to raise awareness, promote debate and share good practice. The areas of focus will include LGBT, Race and Disability hate crimes, Islamophobia, Sexual Harassment and Violence against Women, Bullying and Cyber Bullying, Radicalisation, Behaviour and Use of Language.

Speakers include:

Lord Patel of Bradford OBE and Naz Shah MP;

Jasvinder Sanghera CBE on Forced Marriage and Honour Based Abuse;

Peter Tatchell on Hate Crimes and Human Rights;

Jed Din on the Bradford District Hate Crime Strategy;

James Griffiths from the National Holocaust Centre on The role of the media and the language that they use to create an ‘us and them’ within communities; and

Sylvia Lancaster OBE from the Sophie Lancaster Foundation on Challenging the prejudice and intolerance towards people from alternative subcultures
