National Tree Week at The Carbon Community

By The Carbon Community

Overview

A day of community science to celebrate National Tree Week at The Carbon Community!

It’s National Tree Week, the UK’s largest celebration of trees! Join us for a day of citizen science for trees on Friday, 28th November.

You’ll have an opportunity to get involved in research happening at Glandwr Forest, and to visit two of our veteran trees.

Research at Glandwr Forest
Launched in 2021, our carbon study looks at the impact of two nature-based treatments, enhanced rock weathering (with crushed basalt) and soil microbiome inoculation, on newly planted forests. Designed together with leading scientists, the study looks at tree resilience, tree growth and whether these treatments can accelerate carbon sequestration above and below the ground.

Community Science
Citizen science, sometimes called community science, is where people can help scientists in their work by taking measurements.

This November, we will be measuring trees in our dose response study, which looks at the impact of varying levels of basalt addition and soil microbiome inoculation on tree growth.

Activities include measuring

  • 🌳 Diameter at base
  • 🌲 Diameter at 1.3 metres
