Event description
National Voices are holding a social prescribing workshop for the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector in the South West.

About this Event

National Voices are holding a regional South West workshop to capture the views of the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector on social prescribing. Social prescribing, as described by the NHS and others, links people with health and care problems into practical and emotional support in communities and the voluntary sector. The workshop will take place on Thursday 5 March 2020, between 10am and 1pm at the South West Academic Health Science Network offices.

We are interested to hear about the experiences and perspectives of VCSE organisations on how social prescribing can fulfil its potential and improve the lives of people with health problems by better meeting their practical, social and emotional needs alongside their medical ones. This includes charities, social enterprises or other community-based organisations involved or looking to be involved in social prescribing in the South West. This could be in a role that links people with health problems into support and activities to improve wellbeing, a provider of such activities or as a community builder.

If you would like to attend this workshop then please request tickets through eventbrite and we will confirm your attendance.

This regional workshop is part of phase one of a National Voices social prescribing project. National Voices is the national umbrella membership body for charities working in health and care. The NHS England Personalised Care Group has commissioned National Voices to gather the insight and experiences of the VCSE sector on a key pillar of personalised care – social prescribing.

The aim of the project is to explore the critical issues for the VCSE sector that need to be addressed to enable effective social prescribing. The project will work to surface key lessons and issues from the VCSE sector perspective, share good practice, and collectively identify solutions to enable effective and sustainable social prescribing.

The main purpose of this workshop is to engage the VCSE sector within the region in the discussion on social prescribing. The findings of this and other regional workshops will inform a larger scale national consultation on priorities and actions for social prescribing.

At the workshop we will work together to surface key issues and priorities from a VCSE sector perspective to support effective social prescribing and discuss ideas for practical and policy solutions so that it can fulfil its potential to improve health and wellbeing.
