Description

This public debate will tackle issues of nationalism and national identity in the wake of Brexit and against the backdrop of the spread of nationalist movements and parties across Europe. It has been conceived as a public engagement event and we would like to think of it as a valuable opportunity to open up a space of dialogue between different subjects (academics, MSPs, students, and citizens) and address issues of identities (local vs global), political frameworks (sovereigntism vs supranational federalism), and cultural construction.

On the occasion of the debate, the exhibition WW1 Landscapes, with artwoks of Master students of the Edinburgh College of Art, will have its opening.

This event is sponsored by MSP Linda Fabiani.

Keynote Speakers: Professor Angie Hobbs (University of Sheffield) and Professor Emeritus Sir Thomas Devine (University of Edinburgh).

Moderators: Professor Federica Pedriali (University of Edinburgh), Dr Cristina Savettieri (University of Edinburgh).

With the participation of the Italian Consul General for Scotland and Northern Ireland Carlo Perrotta and Professor Jeremy Robbins, Head of the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures (University of Edinburgh).

This event is funded by the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Edinburgh (Knowledge Exchange and Impact Fund) and the European Commission (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions).

The exhibition is curated by Pilar Garcia De Leaniz Rodriguez and is funded by the Edinburgh College of Art.
