About this event

Overview

This conference aims to critically examine the region’s borders through a variety of lenses, addressing issues related to migration, diaspora, historical legacies, linguistic boundaries, and the geopolitical significance of islands in South and South-East Asia. The notion of boundaries in South Asia is multifaceted, incorporating geographical, political, and cultural dimensions. South Asian and South-East Asian societies, identities, relationships, and ecosystems are deeply entangled with physical and metaphorical borders. Academic discourse in modern South Asian studies has been driven by borders, both imagined and real. Within the context of the changing political landscape of the broader region today, a conference on the role borders have played and continue to play is timely and necessary.
