Event description

Description

Native Explorers is a science education and outreach initiative, co-organized by Lancaster University and the Native Scientist project, with the support of the Camões Institute (Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs). The event takes place on Saturday, May 12, on the campus of Lancaster University.

For the Native Explorers workshops, we are bringing to campus heritage learners of Portuguese from the greater Manchester/Lancashire region. On campus, learners are divided into groups and then complete four science workshops (astrophysics, plant biology, entrepreneurship, and chemical engineering), offered in Portuguese by leading Lancaster researchers. Learners also complete a challenge throughout the day, with the top group receiving a prize. You will find the detailed program here. The event is free of charge.

If your child is between 12 and 15 years and speaks Portuguese, you can register here. There is only a limited number of places available, so early registration is recommended.

We gratefully acknowlede the financial support ot Lancaster University's Widening Participation Program.

An initiative of the Heritage Language Consortium

The Native Explorers event is an initiative of the Heritage Language Consortium, a new strategic partnership between Tübingen University, Lancaster University, the University of Lisbon, the University of Minho, NOVA University of Lisbon, the University of Porto, and the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
