Event description

Description

The day will start with a talk about the development of medicines from common herbs to the medication that is now part of our daily lives. Using herbs grown in our herb beds, Barbara will guide participants through the process of making shampoos.
In their apothecary shop, Eileen and Linda will demonstrate the cures used in the 17th century, which is when the Old Medicine House was built. Val will reveal what the Johnson archive can tell us about the manufacture of Samuel Johnson’s patent medicines in the Old Medicine House and how his business thrived before the National Health Service.
After a buffet lunch, there will be a tour of the Old Medicine House, where some of the artefacts from the Johnson archive will be displayed in the rooms in which they were used.
