Natural Dyeing Course

An introduction to the skills of dyeing fibre and fabric with plant dyes

The course will:

- use dyes from plants to make a range of colours

- explain the use of mordants to fix dyes to fibres

- demonstrate different dye methods

Start the day with a basic introduction to natural dyeing, including health and safety issues together with environmental concerns associated with dyeing.

Work in pairs or small groups to try out a range of dyes.

Dyes will include onion skins, weld, walnut leaves, logwood, red sanders, and fustic.

At the end of the day, take home a range of dyed samples and notes on the dyeing processes, and the enthusiasm and knowledge to continue experimenting with natural dyeing at home!

You will need to bring your own rubber gloves, apron, notebook and pen, and plastic bags to take samples home.

Bring your own lunch – tea and coffee will be provided.

Bydd y cwrs:

- yn defnyddio lliwiau o blanhigion i greu amrywiaeth o liwiau

- yn esbonio defnyddio mordantau i sefydlogi ffibrau

- yn dangos gwahanol ddulliau lliwio

Bydd y diwrnod yn dechrau gyda chyflwyniad sylfaenol i liwio naturiol, gan gynnwys materion iechyd a diogelwch ynghyd â phryderon amgylcheddol yn gysylltiedig â lliwio.

Byddwch yn gweithio mewn parau neu grwpiau bach i roi cynnig ar amrywiaeth o ddulliau lliwio.

Bydd defnyddiau lliwio yn cynnwys crwyn wniwns, melengu, dail cnau Ffrengig, logwd, sandalwydd, a ffystig.

Ar ddiwedd y diwrnod byddwch yn mynd adre gyda chi amrywiaeth o samplau wedi’u lliwio a nodiadau ar y prosesau lliwio, ynghyd â’r brwdfrydedd a’r wybodaeth i barhau i arbrofi gyda dulliau lliwio naturiol gartref!

Bydd angen ichi ddod â menig plastig, ffedog, llyfr nodiadau a phin ysgrifennu gyda chi, a bagiau plastig i fynd â samplau adre.
